A Brilliant Hue:
Bakelite and Turquoise Jewelry Collection of the late Elaine O'Hare

April 2-30, 2010

Opening Reception: Friday April 2, 6-9 PM

Elaine O'Hare 1947

Bakelite Bangles

Spring is here and Against the Wall Gallery is pleased to present in April a stunning and colorful jewelry collection sure to push out those winter blues. Whether you are a collector yourself or know nothing of jewelry you will be amazed by the quality and depth of the items. Grab a friend and get out to the North Lincoln Galleries!

The highlight of the collection includes hundreds of Bakelite bangles; necklaces and pins as well as a large collection of Native American made silver and turquoise. All shapes and colors from the fun and kitschy to alluring art nouveau and art deco pieces.

The exhibit is a remembrance and celebration of long-time Lincoln resident Elaine O’Hare who passed away in November of 2008. Elaine was the mother of Against the Wall Gallery owner John O’Hare and is survived by her husband Lyle O’Hare who will be at the show. Elaine was an avid collector and patron of artwork and fine craft. Her collecting spanned over 45 years. In that time some truly unique items were uncovered.

Elaine was born in 1921 and raised on a farm outside Bartley, Nebraska. Later, with husband Lyle, they settled in Northern California where Elaine worked at the Sacramento Bee newspaper. They later moved back to Nebraska in 1955 to raise three boys.

We hope you get a chance to see the exhibit. It will be the perfect introduction to Spring! The exhibit will run April 2-30.

In conjunction with the opening will be the third anniversary celebration of the Wise Oven Bakery, located in the rear of the Gallery. Though the road has been a tough one for a new business in these times, Wise Oven perseveres and continues to offer an excellent, wholesome product. They boast having the only wood-fired bakery in Lincoln. The public is invited to come out and sample some savory selections this First Friday.

Friday’s reception will be in conjunction will the North Lincoln Art Crawl, a unification of the North Lincoln galleries, including Against the Wall, The Lux Center for the Arts, Heart of Gold, Nebraska Wesleyan University Elder Gallery, Salt Creek Potters Workshop, lichen and Mo Java Café and now welcoming the International Quilt Study Center & Museum.

Come and enjoy some wonderful spring-like art & craft, and bring a friend. Against the Wall Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10-5 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm; closed Sundays.  We are located in Lincoln's Historic Havelock at 6220 Havelock Avenue.
