Dia de las Bicicletas Muertas

For the third year in a row the Zombie Bikes crash the Gallery for a show entitled Day of the Dead Bicycles. It is a month long celebration of the Rat Bike. Rats are the resurrection of old bicycles that have fallen into disrepair, having sat rusting away behind someone’s shed.  It’s not a restoration per se but a divining of old steel into a new configuration; resurrected into something devilish; something crazy. These old bicycles take on a new “life”. Something Undead!  Like the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, the participants take the day to “mingle” with those that have gone before them; to celebrate their existence. The same happens with this revival of sorts for zombie bicycles as well as creative energy and, of course, fun!  Against the Wall gallery celebrates these bikes as an art form.

The exhibition will be on display June 25 – July 31, with an Opening Reception Friday, June 25,  - 6 to 10 pm. Over 30 bicycles, “bike part art”, as well as bicycle related 2D artwork by Robert Esquivel, Steven Storonskij and others will be spread throughout the gallery as well as Pepe’s Bistro, located just above Against the Wall.  The reception will feature live music from David Moscovich and the Nebraska Bike Ensemble as well as hors d’ouerves catered by Pepe’s Bistro and Precision Skateboards and refreshments. The show is free and open to the public. Bikes will be voted on by the public for prizes to be announced at the end of the show.
