About Darrell Hute: Bio: D. W. Hute has been an artist/teacher for most of his 54 years. He currently teaches photography at North Star High School in Lincoln, Ne. and has taught art for twenty-seven years here in Lincoln. Artist Statement: "I made the switch to digital photography about four years ago and really enjoy all the digital format has to offer. My picture taking has not changed-only the printmaking aspect. I take thousands of photographs each year and enjoy traveling the country to explore new picture taking opportunities. I actively show my work in various juried and non-juried exhibitions, galleries in Lincoln and Omaha, and was selected to be a part of the 2005 Nebraska Arts Council's Governors Mansion Exhibition. I also each year participate in the photography exhibit at the state fair and received the Best of Show award in 2005. I prefer to look for simple compositions in the environment, the beauty they have to offer and shoot "Straight Photography" as one of my heroes, Paul Strand so aptly put it. Photography as an art form allows me to interpret these things I then share in the form of a photograph. This, if you will, straight approach to seeing things also transcends into my drawings by breaking the portraits down into their essential qualities while the other drawings well, have a life of their own." "As an artist I am constantly looking at things in a different way. We all see things basically the same as our eyes function the same way.But how we "interpret" these things, in our own unique way, insures the survival of art. Here I have explored the self-portrait, images from my mind, and photographs in my own interpretation of the processes. The process of making art has always been and continues to be paramount to me. The finished piece is an end to an idea that will be continued from what was learned during the process. And so it goes on and on!"
