at Against the Wall Gallery we welcome Omaha artist Karen
Linder.
She will bring in a spring-like atmosphere with her new
collection of vibrant paintings entitled Petals. The
exhibition will be on display December
5 - 31.
An opening reception will be
held on Friday, December 5th,
2008 from 6 to 9 pm. Hors d’oeurves &
refreshments will accompany the art. We ask you to please join us for a month of viewing, collecting and enjoying this high quality artwork. Karen
Linder This series of paintings was inspired by a trip to Australia in the fall of 2007. While there are many different styles of Aboriginal art, the one that captivated me personally was a style called “leaf painting”, originating in the Northern region of Central Australia. I was mesmerized by the color depth and pattern. I am a cytologist (microscopist) and I recognized this pattern arrangement as one seen at the cellular level in the human body. Individual cells form glands, which in turn form organs. This pattern is a basic representation of life. So, for me, these paintings demonstrate the flow of energy and life. I modified the leaf pattern with western materials and call them “Petal” paintings. Karen lives and works out of Omaha, Nebraska.
