About
Delan's work: I work mainly in oil paint but I freely vacillate between mediums sometimes having thick oil paint or drawings completely in pastels/charcoal. In both cases I thrive on the immediacy of drawing and my painting reflects that. Spontaneity plays a significant role. I liken it to free jazz or stream of consciousness writing. Many times I start out a piece with no preconceived ideas. Spiritually, it allows the subconscious to guide, which is often very exciting and telling. Images that come through are mainly figurative but also borrowed from nature, architecture, and landscape. I aim for narrative paintings that involve contemplation and a meditation of life. They are dark and moody but I really see them as hopeful. The figures often times are dealing with some sort of internal struggle but I try to keep things loose and vague with significant abstraction. I enjoy the new perspective viewers bring allowing them to create their own narrative. Influences are many but I credit much to my favorite Old Masters; realist painters such as Rembrandt, Velazquez, John Singer Sargent and the drawings of Giambattista Tiepolo. Contemporary influences include Jim Dine, Anselm Keifer, Odd Nerdrum and Nathan Oliviera. Delan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He studied under nationally know artists Patrick Rowan, Keith Jacobshagen, Dan Howard, and David Routon. hjghjghjghjghjghjhjghjghjhjghjhghjghjghjgghjghjghjghgh |
